How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Latte

With the Covid measures, it’s not always possible to visit the coffee shop for your favourite pick me up drink. So.. why not try and make it at home? For this season, my favourite pick me up drink is definitely a pumpkin spice latte. Previously I mentioned how to make pumpkin puree from scratch and how to make a pumpkin spice base. Read on to find out how to make a pumpkin spice latte.

The disapproving husband

I wish I could tell you that my first go at a pumpkin spice latte, was a successful one. Trust me when I say that it wasn’t. The recipe I found told me to put ground coffee in the milk while boiling it and didn’t mention filtering that out at the end. I still attempted to do that, however, with a sieve since the idea of all those loose bits didn’t sound very tempting.

Trying to be optimistic I sipped the pumpkin spice latte and I actually didn’t hate it. I didn’t manage to get ALL the ground coffee bits out and the coffee flavour didn’t seem to come through very much, but it was doable. Yes, it was far from the pumpkin spice latte you’ll get at the Starbucks or the Costa, but hey after some practice and tweaking I probably would get there.

Proudly I asked Nathan and my mother in law to taste it. Well, I tell you guys… Nathan was making SUCH a scene after tasting it, that my mother in law didn’t even dare to have a go at it! Boys bach. I’ll be honest, I didn’t allow Nathan to try and taste my tested and tweaked version, but I am pretty dang happy with it now!

I hope sharing that didn’t scare you from trying my pumpkin spice latte.

Time for the pumpkin spice goodness

Cup with pumpkin spice latte finished in it. How to Make a Pumpkin Spice Latte by a Hopeful Home.

Without further ado, let’s get going.

Fill your favourite mug with milk (you’ll want a little space left at the top for whipped cream). Put the milk into a saucepan and heat it slowly on a low heat.

Add a tablespoon of pumpkin spice latte to the milk and whisk it until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

In the meantime, when your milk is nearly at your desired temperature and texture, make sure to prepare an espresso shot of coffee in your mug. I like to use our Nespresso machine or the Dolce Gusto machine from my parents in law, but it is also possible to just prepare it in a cafetiere for example.

Now it’s time to add the milk to your mug! You can choose to sieve it if you prefer not to have bits from the pumpkin puree.

Top it up with some squirty cream and optionally a bit of cinnamon. And there you have it, your very own pumpkin spice latte.

I hope you’ll like it. The beauty is that you can tweak and adjust the recipe until it has that perfect sweetness or coffee strength you like. Also if you know of any other stunning pumpkin spice latte recipes, I’m all ears!

Much love,
Jenna
