If you’ve read my previous blog post, then you know that I have been on a mission to master the ideal homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe. Nothing beats a homemade ‘fancy’ hot drink after a busy day. The first step was to make a homemade pumpkin puree from scratch. Today we’ll be talking about the o so crucial core of a pumpkin spice latte. Read on to find out how to make a pumpkin spice base.
The core of a pumpkin spice latte
When I searched Yummly for a pumpkin spice latte recipe, I came across three different types of ‘cores’ for the drink. With the core, I am aiming at that crucial thing that makes the pumpkin spice latte taste like a pumpkin spice latte.
The three different types I came across were: a spice mix, a syrup, and a paste base. I decided to go for the latter since I wanted to make some pumpkin puree anyway and the recipe seemed simple enough!
The result? A deliciously smelling pumpkin spice base which is worth just grabbing from the fridge and smelling for fun.
Let’s get started
So how to go about it? I tell ya, it’s so easy!
Mix together 210 grams of pumpkin puree with 150 grams of light brown sugar. After this, you’ll have to add 1 tbsp of ground cinnamon, 1 tbsp of vanilla aroma, 1/2 tsp of ground ginger, 1/2 tsp of ground cardamom, 1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg, 1/4 tsp of allspice, and 1/4 tsp of ground cloves.
And that is it. No really, you’re done! And doesn’t it smell lovely?
After this you’ll want to put the paste in a sterilised jar in the fridge until you need to use it. The jar will keep in the fridge for up to two weeks.
You’re almost there… A wonderful homemade pumpkin spice latte is within your reach. But I am going to be naughty and make you wait just a few more days! Make sure to tune back in on Friday to see the recipe for Pumpkin Spice Latte 🙂
