Hurricane Lamp Chalwyn Tropic nr 1

This vintage hurricane lamp was produced by Chalwyn Lamps Limited and has a dark green colour. Height: 24 cm/9.5 inch. Width: 16 cm/6.25 inch. Depth: 11.5 cm/4.5 inch.

Chalwyn Lamps Limited started producing hurricane lamps before 1946/1947. The company produced a range of four different lanterns: tropic, far east, tempest and pilot. After many successful years, the company realised that manufacturing these hurricane lamps had become uneconomical, demand had fallen and competition had forced prices below a reasonable level. In 1970 the production of these hurricane lamps ceased.

The green paint has come off in certain places, which makes the silver underneath visible.
